Finding the right jigsaw can be harder than you would imagine. While the price point may tell you much about what you need to know, it is not always a reliable indicator of quality.
Brand names can also help you differentiate the various jigsaws and their effectiveness, but this tactic is of little help to those who are unfamiliar with these products.
Black + Decker is one of the better-known makers of carpentry tools and similar hardware, and their jigsaws have never been known to let down. We've ranked it as one of the best cheap jigsaws on the market in our review, and we wanted to go through the jigsaw here in our in depth review.
If you're brand new to owning a jigsaw, then this model might be the best bet for your toolbox. While it isn't the most robust saw on the market, it brings a tremendous amount of value for the low price you have to pay.
This model of jigsaw is also great for those who would merely like a model which is practical yet reasonably priced. You might not need some of the features that other brands charge a lot of money for. Chances are, if you aren't doing anything fancy with your saw, you might not need those extra features.
Many features make this product an ideal choice for newer carpenters. First off, the wire guard prevents any unfortunate accidents.
A 5 amp motor is more than enough power for the vast majority of cuts you'll need a jigsaw for. No, it isn't the crazy power that the 7amp Bosch jigsaw provides, but Black & Decker does a great job getting the most out of the motor they provide.
We've also found the motor used on this product is markedly more reliable than those which can be found on others in the same price range.
They also provided a wide range of power settings, giving you up to 3,000 Strokes Per Minute. 4 adjustable speed settings mean that you have the flexibility to make a variety of types of cuts. For a low priced jigsaw, these two options and features are fantastic, and set this model apart from others in its class.
This Black and Decker maxs out at 3" for a cut depth, which is not tremendously deep. This is where the Porter Cable PCE345 stands out as a potential replacement - it can reach a cut depth of 4".
Its worth considering how deep of cuts you'll need to make with your jigsaw before choosing between the two models. Again - if you're brand new to owning a jigsaw, chances are you don't need that extra 1".
The BDJS600C actually provides beveling options, which is astounding for a jigsaw in this price range. This option allows you to create cuts in both directions. While you may not have a need for this right off the bat, this feature allows you to grow into this saw as your needs mature.
Black & Decker got it right in this department, as they new that this would be a great saw option for beginners.
They have included a wire guard to protect against accidents and help you see better as you cut. Their adjustable shoe is stable, which helps you ensure you are making a good cut.
We love that this jigsaw features a toolless blade change system, which means that you can change blades quickly and easily. This might not seem like a big deal, but it can really come in handy.
Jigsaws can cut a variety of materials, but they need a different blade for each one. The old model of changing blades was tedious and time consuming. Toolless blade changes solve this problem, allowing you to quickly work your project.
The decision to opt for a toolless blade swap system with a clamp may mean that the blades are less secure than otherwise, but you also put less effort into changing them out. Being able to swap out the blades faster ensures that this model is ideal for working with various materials and densities.
We also went over what other customers had to say about this jigsaw. Many buyers were impressed with how long their jigsaw kept working. Depending on how regularly your jigsaw is cleaned and maintained, as well as how often it is used, it can last for over a year.
Its compatibility with U-shank and T-shank blades means that this is one of the more versatile jigsaws. There were also a few negative reviews, however. Some customers were not impressed the clamp system for blades since it makes it a little more challenging to get a straight cut.
As we have said, this jigsaw is both affordable and reliable, which is a rare combination, especially when it comes to power tools. This model is very affordable, which is the market that Black+Decker typically tries to hit.
If you need a reliable jigsaw that is also affordable, you have found it. Thank you for taking the time to read our reviews. Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.
