A jigsaw is a portable handheld power saw with a reciprocating blade at the bottom.  It is used for effectively cutting curved designs for materials such as wood, metals, plastic laminate, fiberglass, drywall, ceramic tiles, and PVC. The correct blade can cut wood of varying thickness and density, hence making it versatile and handy in your workshop. 

The jigsaw tool is the grandmaster for cutting intricate shapes in different materials. It’s excellent at making compound and bevel cuts in boards and other materials. Additionally, it makes the best pumpkin carvers.

You’d need a jigsaw if you want to cut out an intricate pattern for a hobby project, saw into a countertop to install a kitchen sink, or cut materials such as thin tiles, metals, and plywood that your other saws can’t handle. 

The most common types of jigsaw blades used are Carbon-steel Jigsaw blades, Bi-metal Jigsaw blades, and Carbide Jigsaw blades. 

• Carbon-Steel Jigsaw blades are the most conveniently used as they cut various wood and PVC pipes. 
• Bi-metal jigsaw blades are a more robust blade with hardened teeth used to cut metals.
• Carbide Jigsaw blades are a more powerful type and cut smoothly through even hardcore and intricate materials.
