A miter saw is a power saw that makes crosscuts and angled cuts on a workpiece by placing a mounted blade on a board. It doesn’t have much of a learning curve, and it’s easy to operate even for a novice user.
A miter saw is stationary; instead of running the saw blade along the workpiece, you bring the saw blade down onto the workpiece to cut it. You can use it to cut down large pieces into smaller ones for further refining using other saws.
You can use a miter saw to make miter cuts for such projects as frames, crown molding, gates, ledges, boxes, and much more. It’s also good if you need a lot of smaller pieces out of longer workpieces. You can set up a miter saw to trim down wall studs and other framing materials, trim down fences and roofing materials and trim piping during plumbing.
There are two types of miter saws: standard miter saws and compound miter saws. A standard miter saw offers straight cuts in 90 degrees and 45 degrees, depending on the blade size. A compound miter saw rotates the blade head at various angles from the board to let you cut the piece at an angle beyond the basic 90 degrees.
The miter saw family comes with a range of saw options that allows you to specifically tailor your saw selection to the job at hand. You may be deciding between buying a sliding miter saw, and a non sliding miter saw. To help you decide, I’ve compared the sliding vs non sliding miter saw here.…
